Eric De Doncker aiming for the title in the European FIA GT3 at the wheel of a Ford GT Matech Racing!

Double title holder of the European GT4 Cup at the wheel of the Insulco Motorsport 98 Ford Mustang FR500C GT4, Eric De Doncker is preparing himself for a pretty lively 2009 sporting season, combining a varied and prestigious programme. As from the beginning of this month, it is not without pride that he confirmed his entry in the European FIA GT3 championship for the entire season, at the wheel of the Swiss Matech team's Ford, but this time we are talking about a fearsome GT ...

"For several seasons now Martin Bartek's Matech GT Racing has proven that the Ford GT has become the reference in the FIA GT3 pack ", Eric explains. "The teams title clinched in 2008 perfectly demonstrated that. In that light I reckon I'll be taking on this European campaign with the best possible weapon, allowing me to quite categorically state that we are aiming for the tile ..."

Eric De Doncker will be teaming up with the young Frenchman Dino Lunardi, who had the opportunity of driving the Ford GT Matech last year, during a round of the French GT3 championship on the Magny-Cours circuit. And the least we can state is that this young lad went about it flat out, not only grabbing pole position, but clinching a victory and clocking up a lap record! "I'm certain that the pairing we'll be setting up with Dino will be highly competitive ", the Insulco driver continued. "He's thirsting for victory, and is fully aware that the latter is gained on the track obviously, but also away from it. We have a mutual respect for one another, and it's up to us to confirm all that on the track ..."

Similar to last year, Eric De Doncker can once again count on some faithful partners, all delighted with the success obtained in the Ford adventure in the GT4 category, and which from now will be extended into FIA GT3 at the wheel of a highly competitive and performing muscle car. " I can but thank Insulco and Thermosulit for carrying on with this adventure in my company. We have already clinched two European titles together, giving us presently a 100% success rate! Ford Racing, the sport's department of Ford USA, and Multimatic, an engineering company which is in fact Ford Racing's strong arm, are also continuing with their support, which all goes to prove that the performances set up with the Mustang FR500C GT4 have been appreciated for their true value, even on the other side of the Atlantic ..."

In the coming weeks Eric De Doncker will be revealing additional details regarding his up-coming programme, with one o two excellent surprises up his sleeve. Amongst others there is talk of GT1 in the United States ... In the meanwhile the Belgian driver will be heading on down to the High Tech Test Track Paul Ricard on 16th, 17th and 18th March, for an initial heavy work session during the official "Balance of Power" tests for cars in the FIA GT3 category ...
