Martini Callaway drivers win GT3 European Championship

The Martini-Callaway Corvette drivers James Ruffier and Arnaud Peyroles were unbeatable in the FIA GT3 European Championship 2008. The two Frenchmen in the Martini Callaway Racing Corvette Z06.R had an 11 point advantage in the GT3 European Championship at the season finale in Dubai in December.

The Martini-Callaway Racing Team is the most successful team in FIA-GT3 European Championship. The Series started in 2006. The Ruffier and Peyroles victory was the success story in the fiercely competitive GT3 European Championship. Remarkably, the Martini Callaway won the Teams Championship in 2007, as well as the runner-up position in the Drivers Championship in the same year. This year they won the Driver's Championship.

Two victories, five podium positions.

Arnaud Peyroles and James Ruffier laid the foundation for their European Championship with three podium places in the first four races at Silverstone and in Monza. With more good results at the races in Oschersleben and in Brno, Czech Republic, the two French drivers had a mid- season advantage. The two Callaway Corvette-professional pilots were contesting the European title against strong competition from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ford GT and secured the championship in style with victories in the final two race weekends at Nogaro, France and Dubai.

James Ruffier: "The Martini Callaway Racing team was working perfectly. Our Corvette was fantastic, and we are incredibly pleased with the title win! "

Reliability benefited Peyroles / Ruffier in their journey to the championship. Callaway Competition in Leingarten near Heilbronn developed and constructed the Corvette Z06.R GT3. There were no mechanical failures in the eleven outings of the race cars.

Callaway Competition team boss Ernst Wohr: "We can look back on a very successful season. This team has a Super Force which starts with the drivers, and extends to the engineers and mechanics and all the way to the truck driver. The whole team has done a perfect job both at the track and in the shop, and have shown tremendous ability, endurance and heart."

"Not to mention my partner Giovanni Ciccone, who manages our carbon parts manufacture and maintains our business. Our parent company Callaway Cars in Connecticut, USA, supplies us with advice and support. And an equally big thanks to our friends and sponsors and Nicola and Charles, without whom we could not be successful. "

Customer teams were also successful campaigning the Martini Callaway Racing cars in the FIA GT3 European Series . At the European Championship race at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, two Czechs, Martin Matzke and Jiri Skula, won in a Z06.R GT3 developed by Callaway Competition.

Callaway Corvettes win in the GT Masters and in the GT-Open

The Callaway Corvette Z06.R was successful in other national and international championships in the hands of customer teams. In the German ADAC GT Masters, racing legend Klaus Ludwig and Dominik Schwager were the most successful driver pairing of the season with a total of three victories. Ludwig / Schwager drove for two victories for Callaway Competition at Nurburgring. Toni Seiler Racing produced a win at the peak of the season in June at Norisring, Germany.

Also in Southern Europe, Callaway Corvette teams were also successful. The highly competitive GTS class for GT3 cars of International GT Open Championship was won by Team Twenty-Two-Racing (Italy) with a Corvette Z06.GT3. The Twenty-Two drivers, Marco Cioci and Andrea Pellizzate, had four class victories to lock up the GTS title.
