Fischer Racing scored points at season final
Paderborn, 11.10.10 [FIA GT3-Europameisterschaft] Fischer Racing concluded the 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship at Zolder with two Top-10 finishes. In the two final races of this years European Championship, Mikko Eskelinen (FIN) and Christoffer Nygaard (DAN) finished eight und seventh in the Fischer Racing-Ford GT. After an exclusion of the winning and third placed car and an appeal of both concerned teams of this decision, the result of the second race remains provisional.
In the penultimate race of the season, both Fischer Racing-drivers showed a strong performance. From 20th position on the starting grid, Eskelinen and Nygaard worked trough the field in the 60-minute race. Nygaard was already in the Top 10 in the final minutes of the race, when he passed the eight-placed Corvette of the new European Champions on the finish line and secured a eight-place finish in the first race. „That race was lot of fun", said Nygaard after the race. „All through my stint I had other cars in front of me, which I was able to overtake. With each car I passed, my motivation grew."
For the second and also final race of the FIA GT3-season at Zolder, Nygaard had secured a second row starting position. The Young Dane started fourth and maintained the fourth place during his stint. After the driver change and a quick pitstop, Mikko Eskelinen was running in third position. But in the final minutes of the race, the competitors made a lot of pressure on Eskelinen and he finally finished seventh. After the race, the winner and third placed car were excluded after technical checks, but appealed this decision. The result of race two remains provisional and might chance, after the appeal of the two teams is heard.
Beside the 10 points out of the two races, Mikko Eskelinen also had something else to cheer about. As best placed Finnish driver in the FIA GT3 Championship, he bet his fellow countryman in the very unofficial „Finnish Championship"of the European Championship as highest ranked Finn in the driver's championship. „Once again, we had our hands on the podium, I'm a little disappointed that we didn't made it on the podium here", Eskelinen said. „The Zolder track is quite tricky and I raced there for the very first time. I don't know all the tricks yet to be fast here, so at the end of the second race, I lost a little bit of ground."
„The start of the race was very good, also our car was just perfect today", Christoffer Nygaard resumed the second race. „I could maintain the fourth place, but it was quite a bit boring during my stint as there was not really much happening. But I'm quite happy that I could help Mikko to win the „Finnish Championship", Nygaard added with a grin.
„All in all, the season wasn't too bad", Eskelinen said after his first season in FIA GT3 racing. „The championship, most of the tracks and the car was new for me. But we claimed points in more then the half of the races. It was not an easy season, but the result is good and something I can built on for the next season."
