Successful season start at Silverstone

Nygaard/Eskelinen sixth in Saturday's second race

Fischer Racing started with a successful result into the 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship at the season opener in Silverstone. Christoffer Nygaard (DK) and Mikko Eskelinen (FI) finished good sixth in Sunday's second race, in Saturday's race the Scandinavian duo brought their Fischer Racing-Ford GT to the finish in 14th position.

In Sunday's race in Silverstone, Christoffer Nygaard showed a top performance. The young Dane, who also starts in the GT1 World Championship with Fischer Racing's sister team Young Driver AMR, was one of the quickest drivers in the beginning of the race. From starting position 10, Nygaard worked his way trough the field and was already second before the halftime of the race. He handed over the Ford GT to team mate Mikko Eskelinen in second position. The Finn could hold second spot in his very first race in the FIA GT3 European Championship, but shortly before the end of the race, four other cars overtook the Fischer Racing-Ford GT. Nygaard/Eskelinen finally finished sixth and scored their first championship points.

The first race on Saturday ended with a midfield position for the two drivers of the Fischer Racing-Ford GT. Eskelinen started from 21. position and could gain three position in the opening lap, but lost some places in the following laps. Christoffer Nygaard, who overtook the Ford GT for the second part of the race, finally brought the car to the chequered flag in 14th position.

"My goal was to score points and finish both races", Mikko Eskelinen declared. "So I'm quite happy with my first weekend in the FIA GT3 European Championship, as I achieved all my goals. It was my very first race at Silverstone, and I also need some more experience with the car, so it was not an easy weekend for me. Christoffer drove a very good race, he delivered the foundation for our good result in the second race."

"I had a really big moment in Sunday's race, when the leading Porsche spun in front of me and slightly touched my car. Luckily there was no damage to our car", Christoffer Nygaard told after the race. "Beside that, it was a really cool race today. The car was very good, I had quite some fun out there."
