Fischer Racing targets points in Portugal
Penultimate round of the FIA GT3 European Championship
The summer break in the FIA GT3-European Championship comes to an end. After a two-month break, the championship continues this weekend with the fifth round at Portimao in Portugal, 3000km away from the Fischer Racing base in Germany. Fischer Racing enters one Ford GT in the Portuguese round of the FIA Gt3 European Championship. The Ford GT will be driven by Mikko Eskelinen (FIN) and Florian Gruber (GER), who jump in for regular driver Christoffer Nygaard.
"Christoffer asked us to skip the next round for family commitments and of course we accepted his request", Fischer Racing boss Hardy Fischer explains. "We are very sorry that Christoffer can't be with us this weekend and we really hope he will be back for the next round."Florian Gruber, a well-known driver with Fischer Racing, jumps in for Nygaard at Portimao. Gruber started in last year's FIA GT3 European Championship with Nygaard, together they took one victory and two further podiums. Gruber is optimistic for his first start of the season in the Fischer Racing-Ford GT: "Last year it went really well for us at Portimao, we took a second place in the first race. The track should suit the Ford GT, so I'm confident we can claim two good results. I haven't been in the car this year, but I'm used to the car so I think after a few laps, I will be on speed again."
Mikko Eskelinen did not rest in the two-month summer break. The Finn used the break to take part in the famous Finland Rally, a round of the Rally World Championship. He was quite successful and finished in good 26th position in an event with more then 100 competitors. After a recent test in the Ford GT at the Nuerburgring, Eskelinen is well prepared for the final two rounds of this year's championship.
