Callaway Competition leads team championship
Callaway-drivers Hohenadel/Keilwitz took second and fourth
Callaway Competition claimed the lead in the team championship of the FIA GT3 European Championship at the third round at Jarama (E) this weekend. Callaway drivers Christian Hohenadel and Daniel Keilwitz (D/D) scored a second and a fourth places in their Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06.R GT3, developed and built by Callaway in Germany, and extended their lead in the championship. After six of twelve rounds, Hohenadel and Keilwitz are „half time champions"in the FIA GT3-European Championship. The two Dutchman Marius Ritskes and Bernard van Oranje scored a 14. and a 16. Place in the second Callaway-Corvette at the former Spanish Formula 1-track.
Hohenadel/Keilwitz were handicapped with fuel supply problem the entire weekend. This should play the determining role in both races. Daniel Keilwitz started second in the first race Sunday morning, but lost two positions in the first lap. He quickly made back his way to second and handed over the Corvette to Hohenadel in second position. In the second half of the race, Hohenadel could claim the lead, but was faced with fuel supply problems in the ultimate lap. A few hundred meters before the chequered flag, Hohenadel had to slow down, but managed to bring the Corvette to the finish in second position.
"At the start, I was a little bit too late on the gas, this cost me some positions", Keilwitz said after race. „But it didn't take long until I was second again and then I had a real good race. It's a pity that we lost the victory on the ultimate lap, but we scored many points for the championship, whilst our closest competitors failed to score points."
In the second race, Hohenadel had to start from eleventh position. The race stewards imposed a penalty of five positions in the starting grid, after Hohenadel had a contact with a Lamborghini when battling for the lead in race one. But Hohenadel made his way quickly up to the front after the start and gained three positions in the first lap. Keilwitz also pushed in the second half of the race and was already lying in third position, when the fuel supply problem occurred again. Again on the ultimate lap. Keilwitz lost one position and finished fourth.
„Although we lost one position in the last lap of both races, I'm very satisfied with our results here", Hohenadel made up a positive balance after the two races. „With the third and fourth places, we collected points for the championship and extended our championship lead, as our competitors did not score big points this weekend."
The weekend in Spain was also successful for Marius Ritskes and Bernard van Oranje in the second Callaway-Corvette. The two Dutchman finished 14. and 16. in the two races, their best result in the European Championship so far.
After six of twelve rounds of the FIA GT3 European Championship, Hohenadel/Keilwitz are championship leader, while Callaway Competition claimed the lead in the team championship at Jarama.
