EUROSPORT SUPER RACING WEEKEND ROUND 6 :
BUDAPEST (HUN), 29th JUNE/ 1st JULY 2001
After a break of over a month, the series return for the second half of the season, with round six being held at the Hungaroring circuit near Budapest, in Hungary. The track, which hosts the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix every year, is 3.971 km long, and is situated 20 km north east of Budapest.
The FIA GT Championship has visited the Hungaroring every year since 1998, with the slow, winding track and the high temperatures challenging teams and drivers alike. Hungarian driver Tamas Illes, who finished in third place at the circuit last year, driving the Chamberlain Motorsport Chrysler Viper GTS-R, is driving this year for GLPK Racing, and for his home event, the car will be painted in the national colours of red, white and green.
Italian driver Gianni Morbidelli is hoping that the Hungaroring might be the turning point of his season, which has so far been disappointing for him. He currently lies fifth in the FIA European Super Production classification, 50 points behind the leader. However, repeated motor breakdowns have persuaded the CiBiEmme team to switch to the Carly Motorsport engines, which have proved to be the most competitive in Super Production. Morbidelli also likes the Hungarian track, having won both rounds of the European Super Touring Cup there last season, also driving a CiBiEmme BMW. <pre> Circuit Length : 3.971 km/ 2.468 miles GT on TV : Eurosport Super Racing Weekend Saturday, 30th June 2001 16:15 - 17:45 Qualifying live Sunday 1st July 2001 11.20 - 16:25 Races live Wednesday 4th July 2001 22:30 - 23:00 Highlights Repeat : Thursday 5th July : 10:00 - 10:30 Friday 6th July : 10.30 - 11.00
