'Dramatic weekend' for Ide at Zandvoort
It was not a good weekend for the Phoenix Audi duo at Zandvoort.

Following a 2012 season with Ferrari in the GT World Championship Enzo Ide is tackling a brilliant double assignment in 2013. The young West-Flanders based driver is competing in both the Blancpain Endurance Series as also the FIA GT Series with Phoenix Audi, teamed up with fellow countryman Anthony Kumpen and with the German GT1 World Champion Markus Winkelhock for the longer races.
The outcome was no points scored for Enzo Ide and his teammate Anthony Kumpen and as such the worst result of the present season. But as the result of this personal bad news Enzo Ide put the matter into perspective. “My grandfather passed away this weekend…
Urbain Werbrouck was at the base of my interest in motorsport . He was highly passionate about cars and motorsport in general and this love for everything on four wheels flowed on through to me. He passed away during the night of Friday to Saturday and I know that I’m going to miss him greatly. I would have loved to have given him a good result this weekend…all I can now say is: rest in peace.”
It was not a good weekend for the Phoenix Audi duo at Zandvoort. Whereas on the one hand the free practice on Friday showed signs of clinching a good result, the qualifying on the other hand turned into a rather difficult exercise.
Enzo Ide: “We just managed to achieve a top-10, the so called superpole, and with that everything was said. I couldn’t get anything better out of the car than a tenth place. During the race everything appeared to be going somewhat better, and at the pit stop we were eyeing a place in the top-6, which considering the qualifying would not have been bad.
Even a fifth place might well have been on the books. However it appears that one of the safety harnesses had not been fully shut and Anthony was obliged to re-enter the pit lane.
Obviously safety comes first, but on the other hand after that second stop we knew that a good result had gone up in smoke. I’m obviously extremely disappointed, seeing the result of the first race also determines the starting grid of the main race on Sunday.
It was Anthony Kumpen who took the start on Sunday, but he did not race for very long.
Anthony had just made up a place when the race was interrupted as the result of an accident. A quarter of an hour later the Safety Car let the pack retake the race and Anthony was heading towards slotting into a tenth place. Unfortunately at that moment the gearbox broke and our race was over …”
Enzo Ide is now taking a short summer break, prior to preparing to compete in the 24 Hours of Spa being held in just over a fortnight’s time.
