SRT wins second Citation Cup in Bucharest with Cloet and Vannelet

BUCHAREST. This weekend SRT completed a pretty gruelling springtime season in a spectacular manner. The Frenchman Gilles Vannelet and the Belgian Tom Cloet have now also won the second race of the FIA GT Citation Cup. Having set the second qualifying time and having completed a sensible race on Bucharest's splendid street circuit they won the event in the SRT Corvette C5-R ahead of both JMB Maserati MC 12s. In addition SRT also finished eighth overall in GT1.

For SRT this represents the end of an exceptionally busy beginning of the season where the team over eight races has won twice, came third twice and did not retire from any of the races. Last but not least, SRT is the actual leader in the FIA GT Citation Cup.

The following rendezvous' are the FIA GT in Monza, the FFSA GT at Val de Vienne and quite obviously the 24 Hours of Spa at the end of July.

"I'm particularly happy to have won here, and also equally pleased to know that our C5-R is returning to the workshops unscathed," a highly happy Patrick Selleslagh commented after the race. "The only thing that went wrong this weekend was the battle for pole in our class. We stopped just too early and on a drying track it was fatal for us in the final phase. A second consecutive pole would have been great but all in all I can only be but really satisfied with the overall result. Both Gilles and Tom carried out what was asked of them, namely to win the Citation Cup without taking any risks. And now we're back on the podium."

SRT finally finished fourteenth and won the Citation Cup one lap ahead of the second in the race.

Tom Cloet is now sole leader in the Citation Cup rankings. Following on from Silverstone the driver from West Flanders has now also clinched victory in Bucharest and will be driving for SRT for the entire season. Tom Cloet: "This is quite simply fantastic. Not only have we won here, be we have a comfortable lead in the championship and we take a point for eighth place in FIA GT. All in all this is another perfect weekend for SRT."

"Gilles Vannelet is also to be congratulated, because he didn't know the car or the team and yet was able to adapt himself very quickly", Patrick Selleslagh added. "But over and above all I would like to really thank my son Niels, my wife and our mechanics Roel, Michel and Bram for all their unceasing efforts during these last few months. I really asked a lot of them and we only have a limited team, but each one of them put in more than 100%. Without a doubt these recent successes are the rich rewards of their efforts."
