MERCHTEM. This coming weekend SRT will round off a series of four successive race weekends. In the meantime the Corvette C5-R and the equipment are presently on their way from Dijon to Bucharest, to compete in the second round of the FIA GT Citation Cup. Two weeks ago Tom Cloet and the Finn Kuismanen were victorious in their debut race for the Citation Cup and SRT will be defending their championship lead in Rumania. However the Finnish master is prevented from competing and is replaced by the Frenchman Gilles Vannelet on the brand new town circuit in Bucharest. Vannelet won both FIA GT3 races in Silverstone and was also victorious in the FFSA GT3 in Dijon last Sunday.
Tom Cloet is looking forward to the race in Rumania, but is also very conscious of the danger a street circuit can generate. "The slightest mistake on such a circuit is heavily punished. In fact our assignment is pretty straight forward: to finish up front in the Citation Cup and for the rest ignore everyone and definitely not get involved in any duels with cars that are not relevant to us. There's always the chance of skidding or coming into contact and with concrete walls around the circuit instead of sand traps the outcome is always far more serious. All the same it should be a unique experience and something I wouldn't want to miss for love or money."
This weekend SRT will be concluding the first phase of the season. The third round of the Citation Cup will be held at the end of June and this will be followed by the fourth race of the FFSA GT championship at the beginning of July, after which the team will be fully focussed on the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
