In Bucharest the driver from San Marino gains the sixth best time for saturday's race

For the second time, the FIA GT Championship is in Romania, for the Bucharest City Challenge. The magnificent Romanian Parliamentary buildings form a superb backdrop for the Bucharest Ring, 3.111 km long, which will take the teams and drivers onto a city

The last time the FIA GT Championship raced in Bucharest, the May weather was cold and wet. It could hardly be more different to the August conditions, with blue skies, high temperatures and plenty of sunshine forecast for the race weekend: that means, for the drivers, to drive on this circuit for the first time. There will be 24 cars racing: 10 for GT1, 13 for GT2 and one for G2.

Christian Montanari confirms the category's sixth best time already setted during the free practice, with the best lap time setted on 1:19.373 at 9th lap, with an average speed of 139.28 Kmh. The race is starting today at 6.15 pm: for the first time the FIA GT Championship has adopted an experimental new format specifically for this event, with two one-hour races, a qualifying race today at 6.15 pm and the Championship race tomorrow at 1.15 pm.

The qualifying session sets the grid for tonight's first one-hour race, in this altered format for the city circuit. The qualifying race will set the grid for Sunday's Championship race. Half-points are awarded after each race.

Christian Montanari:

"Thomas and I came here willing to gain back positions i9n the ranking, so we are going to do our best tonight and tomorrow. In the first positions we are all close: we have 0:00:708 delay from the pole position, that makes us hope well for the final result. The first race will be much more struggled than the others, cause it lasts just 60 minutes, so mistakes are forbidden. Moreover it's a city circuit, where overtakings are very difficult and the struggle for the first positions is always very absorbing."
