Piccini climbs up to 4th place at the wheel of the Lister in the FIA Championship.
Andrea Piccini was fourth on the starting grid and in fourth place at the end of the Barcelona race . It was therefore a satisfying beginning for the young Tuscan at the wheel of the Lister on a race track that seemed to be more favourable to the Ferraris.
Friday was used for Andrea to gain confidence with the car and with driving on the right hand side. He had very few tests on the Lister to get to know the car completely. Regardless of this, the qualifying session on Saturday turned out to be positive for Andrea who managed to place himself fourth on the starting grid. He was only 6 decimals behind the pole position. After Piccini's performance, it was his team -mate Deletraz's turn. With old tyres and full tank of petrol , Deletraz did not have a favourable track on his side and thus went slower. During Sunday's race, Andrea was hit by a Saalen car . This damage forced him to do a pit stop, to restart from the last position and to then climb his way up to a final fourth place.
"After Friday's free session, I knew that I could fight for the first places on the starting grid. The fourth place on the grid left me satisfied. Although I encountered some traffic, I took advantage of the second set of new tyres during the fastest lap and lowered my time by 2 seconds. During the race however the track was more favourable towards the Ferrari who took up all the places on the podium. After being hit, I had no choice but to do my best to catch up. At the end of the first hour, I was able to climb up from being last on the grid to seventh place. With the help of my team-mate Deletraz, we were able to inherit and keep the fourth place till the end. I am however be satisfied with the results. When we will have the perfect understanding with the car, we will be all the more competitive."
