TAYLOR TO PARTNER BALFE AT PAUL RICARD
The Balfe Motorsport Team has signed Nigel Taylor to partner Shaun Balfe in its Saleen S7R at the next round of the FIA GT Championship at Paul Ricard in two weeks time.
Taylor had a chance to try the car during a test at Pembrey earlier this week and the team was pleased with how he adapted to the car straight away. He already has a successful history with the team, winning the Spanish GT Championship alongside Shaun Balfe in 2004.
The deal is initially for the Ricard round only. However, both Nigel and the team will review the possibility of him racing at the next round at Dijon after next weekend.
"We're really happy to have Nigel on board for Paul Ricard," said Shaun Balfe. "He knows the team well and during his test he adapted to the Saleen very quickly and put in some really good lap times. The last time we raced together at Paul Ricard was 1997 in a 500km race in a Caterham, which we won! So maybe we can have some more luck this time too," he added.
The team has been continuing its hard work to develop the car, deciding to skip the Spa 24 hours and concentrate its budget and efforts on moving further up the grid in the second half of the season.
"The team has been far from idle while the rest of the grid was at Spa," said Shaun. "We've made some upgrades to the bodywork and there are a few areas in the set-up and in the cock-pit that we've worked on that we hope will see us make the final push to be able to mix it with the rest of the field. We're looking forward to seeing where we are at Paul Ricard" he added.
