Aston Martin works driver Stefan Mucke goes first rounds on the track of Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi - Hot championship prelude is in sight
Berlin/Abu Dhabi (rol/ot) Looking out of the window of his hotel room he directly can see the race track on which the new FIA GT1 World Championship starts on Friday and Saturday (16th /17th of April). Because the race track with a 5,518 Kilometer distance at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi goes partially through the hotel area. The German sport scar pilot from Berlin Stefan Mucke is looking forward to the championship prelude at the United Arab Emirates. ^AThis new race track on which the Formula 1 is held as well is just very big and exciting".
The Aston Martin works driver, that is sharing cockpits of an Aston Martin DBR9 with the Danish Christoffer Nygaard for the Team Young Driver AMR (Paderborn/Copenhagen), is full of expectation for the premier. ^AThis is surely going to be a hot championship prelude - even because of the temperatures", tells the 28-year-old. On Wednesday (14th of April) he drove the first few laps on the runway at 38 degrees Celsius air temperature. ^AYou get really hot and it gets very sweaty in the cockpit because of the missing air condition in the car. But we're all sharing the same problem."
Stefan Mucke has to deal with former Formula 1 and DTM (German Touring Car Championship) drivers between the 24 pilots - twelve teams with cars of the six brands Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford, Lamborghini, Maserati and Nissan. ^AThat is already making it interesting and thrilling. I am aiming for a ranking in points as often as possible and being in the top ten positions", tells the Berlin previous to the first start.
The GT1 sports cars are not new terrain for Stefan Mucke, because in 2007 he switched to the sports car scene after driving in the DTM (GTC) for Mercedes for five years. At this new scene he caused a furore at the FIA GT Championship. He gained the first victory for Lamborghini in this series and has been on second position on the podium as well. He also knows the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 with a 600 HP V12 engine and six litres of capacity from two former adoptions.
^AThis is an approved car, which has already gained victories in his class at the 24 hours of Le Mans", defines the Berlin. And the engine is also well-known, because it is the same like the one of the closed LMP1 Aston Martin race car. In this car he was champion of the 2009 season of the Le Mans Series (LMS) and he has been the best German driver at the famous 24 hour race of Le Mans gaining 4th place. He was the best in a sport scar prototype with a Benzine motor. With the LMP1 racing car Stefan Mucke got two places on the podium in 2010 already as well - on third place at the first run of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Sebring/USA (12 hour race) and on second position last Sunday (11th of April) at the LMS prelude at Le Castellet/France (8 hour race).
