Welsh co-driver Carl Williamson, who was injured in an accident on the Jim Clark Memorial Rally at the beginning of this month, hopes to return to the co-driving seat as early as September.

Williamson, who normally navigates for young Finnish star Jari-Matti Latvala, sustained fractures to his pelvis when the duo's Ford Focus left the road during stormy conditions on the tarmac round of the British Rally Championship three weeks ago, crashing heavily into a wall.

The duo have been competing in the 2003 British Rally Championship and selected rounds of the World Rally Championship in a Ford Focus RS WRC and in the 2003 Italian Subaru Impreza Cup in a Subaru Impreza.

Williamson will undergo an operation on Wednesday, which will see him at home and able to walk with the assistance of crutches within a week. Doctors have assured him that with a course of intensive physiotherapy it is likely that he will be fit enough to return to the co-driving seat within a matter of weeks.

Williamson is aiming to be back alongside Latvala in time for the round four of the Italian Subaru Cup, Rally Costa Smeralda, on September 20.
