Pwllheli co driver takes top 6 in British Championship

Pwllheli based Darren Garrod scored a career best when he finished fifth amongst the British Rally Championship contenders on last weekends final round, Wales Rally GB to end the season sixth overall.

Darren could have finished higher if Lady Luck had been kinder. Darren, who co drives for Rob Swann in a Geoff Jones Motorsport run Subaru Impreza N12, had been well placed to finish the rally fourth amongst the British Rally Championship contenders but problems hampered the pair. After suffering a broken driveshaft on the last stage on Friday the pair fought back up to fourth in class with a string of quick times before two punctures on the final two stages on Sunday cost the pair dearly.

2007 has been a great year. Rob has shown a major increase in pace and to finish 6th in the co driver's standings is really good. But it's also a little frustrating as we were heading our major rivals both times when we ran into problems this weekend.

Wales Rally GB is always a tough event so it is great just to see the finish, but to come home 36th overall is very impressive!

Darren, who contested a total of 15 rallies in 2007, now has a well deserved break before preparing for the 2008 season.
