Sykes set for showdown on Tempest Rally

Stourbridge based rallying ace Richard Sykes heads to this weekends Tempest Rally, the final round of the 2007 'stars' British Rally Championship engaged in a 4 way battle for championship honours.

Richard, who is co-driven by Simon Taylor in the GI Sykes supported Peugeot 106, has been the class of the field throughout the year. After leading the first three events before mechanical problems caused the pair to drop out, their season has certainly taken a turn for the better. 3 wins in a row, including totally dominating the last round, the Trackrod 'stars' Rally in Yorkshire, sees the Acaster Boat Sales supported JAM Motorsport run Peugeot pair head to Aldershot, just outside London in a very strong position.

Although the points table shows them to be 26 points behind the championship leaders, the 'stars' series allows competitors to only count their best 5 out of 7 scores. When this is taken into account the top 3 are actually only separated by 6 points with a maximum of 20 being granted to the rally winner.

The last couple of rounds have gone really well for Simon and myself and the little Peugeot has run perfectly. The Tempest Rally should be an interesting one because it is so close at the top that we all have no option but to drive flat out from the very start.

The winner of the 2007 'stars' British Rally Championship wins quite an enviable assortment of prizes, including both a funded drive on the Wales Rally GB, the final round of the World Rally Championship and free entry to all of the 2008 British Rally Championship events!

With Wales Rally GB being one of the highlights of the World Rally Championship the prestige surrounding this world class event is worth a great deal too any rally driver, not to mention having the world's media and the works manufacturer teams watching your performance live for 4 days!
