Car confusion hampers champion's preparations
2006 R3 British Rally champion Matt Beebe faces an unusual problem ahead of the opening round of the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship. He does not know what car he is using!
Matt, a service technician from Nuneaton, won the 2006 championship for production class 2 wheel drive cars at the wheel of his m3motorsport run MG ZR160 and was due to use the same car again in 2007. However, following a dominant drive on the recent Border Counties Rally, which he was using as a pre season test, he was approached with the offer to drive a Citroen C2R2 in the inaugural C2R2cup. (www.c2r2cup.com). The only problem is the limited time frame between when negotiations opened and the first round. A budget needs to be found and the car needs to be completed!
Last year we did not manage much testing before the Pirelli and so made a point of avoiding that this year. But after we won the 2 wheel drive section of the recent Border Counties we were approached with the option of using a Citroen C2R2, which is incredible! I know everyone involved is putting everything they can into this and either way I will be at the Pirelli competing in class R2.
Matt, who has won 3 major titles in as many years, and has a 100% finish record, finished second in class on the 2006 Pirelli International Rally.
The 2007 Pirelli International Rally begins from Carlisle on Friday 20th April 2007 before the cars tackle a series of night time stages through the infamous 'killer' Kielder Forest. After an overnight break back in Carlisle the crews once again tackle the world famous forest complex on Saturday before the ceremonial finish early in the evening after nearly 2 days of tough and treacherous rallying.
