Champion returns for Dynamic title battle

Double British Rally Champion Jonny Milner returns to defend his 2003 title next weekend, as the Yorkshireman from Huggate contests the opening round of the Kwik Fit--Pirelli British Rally Championship on the Pirelli International Rally.

Backed by long term sponsors Team Dynamics and Pirelli, Milner will aim to make history with a third consecutive title in a row -- a feat never managed before in the history of British Championship rallying. Jonny has also moved to a new car for 2004 -- and will drive a Morgan Motorsport leased Subaru Impreza WRC2002 for the season, replacing his massively successful Toyota Corolla WRC.

Partnering the highly successful 35 year old as ever is Welsh co-driver Nicky Beech, and with renewed support from NGK, Ferodo, Sparco, 76 R Fuels, Competition Car Insurance and Green Filters, the Jonny Milner Motorsport run team are confident ahead of their first season with Subaru power.

Milner has been the man to beat in the British series for the past two seasons, thanks to a string of polished performances. Jonny never finished outside of the Top 3 positions on any round of the BRC in 2002 or 2003, and took superb victories on the Rally of Wales, Scottish Rally, Manx Rally and Trackrod en route to title success.

Two titles have not diminished Milner's desire to win, and after testing the Subaru briefly in North Yorkshire last week, Jonny pronounced himself delighted with the new acquisition, and is ready to go for title number three in 2004:

'The new car is certainly a massive step on from the Corolla we have used in the last two years. The grip out of corners seems a lot better and the car is extremely stable. It already feels like a much quicker car, so I'm really looking forward to the Pirelli International Rally now. We have kept our core team together which was very important for team spirit, and I know that the new faces we do have in the team will be of major benefit to us this year.

In terms of going for the title, I've made no secret of my desire to make it three in a row. Its my primary motivation for the year and I will certainly give it my very best shot. I'd expect a couple of familiar faces to contest the Pirelli International Rally in World Rally Cars, and then it remains to be seen who we will be up against for the whole of the season. Morgan Motorsport have supplied us with an excellent car, and our sponsors are equally enthusiastic about the year, including new backers Goldline Bearings and local sponsor Elanders Hindson. It all gives me great confidence that I can go for the title again and I can't wait to get started'.

Milner's new Team Dynamics Subaru will be painted red ahead of the Gateshead based event, which uses the infamous 'Killer' Kielder forest on the Scottish border. Milner has never won the event before, but came within seconds of glory last year. A solid points scoring start is the prime target for Jonny before the Championship heads to Nicky's home stages in North Wales for the International Rally of Wales on May 15/16.

The Pirelli International Rally begins at 7pm on Friday April 23rd, running late into the dark of the Kielder stages before a full day in the forests on Saturday 24th. Swirling fog made conditions very difficult last year, so it could be anyone's guess as to what the leaderboard will be like on Saturday morning.
