Innovation Fiestas happy to finish Rally GB

Innovation Motorsports successfully brought both of their Ford Fiesta ST150 rally cars to the finish of the 2006 Wales Rally GB, overcoming atrocious weather conditions and rather rough and rutted stages along the way.

The 2006 Wales Rally GB was the final round of the World Ford Fiesta ST Trophy and as a prize for winning the 2006 Ford Fiesta UK Trophy Chris Moore had been granted free entry into this prestigious event.

The second Innovation Motorsports car was reserved for young up and coming Dutchman Hans Weijs who was making his gravel debut on the grand finale of the 2006 season.

Despite having never driven on gravel before 19 year old Hans acquitted himself well with a polished performance, feeling his way around the tricky stages on Friday and seemed happy with proceedings. It was very foggy this morning and the roads have been very rough but the car is going very well and we are having fun!

Day 2 saw Hans continue his learning curve as he tackled some of the more formidable stages in Wales. Having conquered stages such as Epynt and Resolfen the flying Dutchman appeared happy to be lying 6th overall but felt he could have pushed a bit harder.

After overcoming driveshaft problems on Day 1 Chris Moore was fighting back up the leaderboard and set the fastest stage time in the final stage of the day, the Millennium stadium special Stage. This is the first stage where we have gone up against the other Fiestas on an almost level playing field and we were quickest of the lot so I am fairly pleased.

Day 3 was all about getting to the finish but despite this the temptation to push was too great and Hans impressed with some strong stage times to eventually finish 4th on his gravel debut. This rally has been amazing. Very difficult but the car ran perfectly and I am very happy with my results.

Chris Moore, the Innovation Motorsports team principal was happy with how the event had paned out. Hans drove a perfect rally and did everything we asked of him. He certainly is a star in the making. My rally was pretty mixed but just being able to complete Wales Rally GB was a special moment for both myself and my co-driver Richard 'wee man' Edwards. A very big thank you must go out to all at Innovation Motorsports, from Tony Clements, who made sure everything ran like clockwork, and to all the mechanics -- without them we could not have managed this.

Innovation Motorsports immediately began re-prepping the cars after the rally as both Fiestas will be used on the forthcoming Ford Fiesta shoot out as the lucky crews go head to head for the opportunity to be a Works Ford test driver in 2007. Amongst the crews to use an Innovation Motorsport car this coming Wednesday will be talented New Zealander Emma Gilmour who was recently chosen as a 'wild card' entry.
