Gwynn ready for the big time.
Top young co-driver George Gwynn takes the next step on his climb up the ladder of opportunity when he heads to the Pirelli International Rally in Carlisle for the start of the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship, this weekend.
George, a Machynlleth based rally technician with Geoff Jones Motorsport during the week, is co-driving for future rally star Nick Kenny in a Safe Financials Limited supported Subaru Impreza N12 in the 2007 British Rally Championship, and after winning their first ever rally together the duo are eagerly looking forward to getting their 2007 campaign under way.
Nick and I have been working quite hard over the last few weeks, working on writing pacenotes together. I don't have a lot of experience with doing recces but Geoff Jones has helped me out a lot and so I head north confident that I will do a good job. I finished 3rd in the 'stars' category of the British Championship last year, which was my first full season of co-driving, so I am aware of the pressures and am confident that I am ready for this.
Nick and George, who are the youngest pairing in the premier rally championship, face stiff competition from no less than 3 former British Rally champions but with 2007 earmarked as a development year, the pair will be more focused on improving their own pace rather than trying to chase the more experienced drivers around them.
The 2007 Pirelli International Rally begins from Carlisle on Friday 20th April 2007 before the cars tackle a series of night time stages through the infamous 'killer' Kielder Forest. After an overnight break back in Carlisle the crews once again tackle the world famous forest complex on Saturday before the ceremonial finish early in the evening after nearly 2 days of tough and treacherous rallying.
