Ulster Rally beckons for Meredith

Dolgellau based David Meredith, the reigning 'stars' British Rally Champion, is looking to step up a gear as he heads across the waters to Ireland for his first attempt at the notoriously tricky Ulster Rally, Round 4 of the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship,

29 year old David, who is co-driven by Carlisle based BBC reporter Jemma Bellingham in the Revolution Wheels backed Mitsubishi Evo 9, has enjoyed a mixed season so far as he has adapted to the step up from a 1400cc MG ZR to the far more powerful 4 wheel drive Mitsubishi. Despite a couple of off road excursions the pair have still impressed with their stage times in a car which is still relatively standard in specification, compared to the more advanced machinery around them.

I haven't been 100% happy with the handling and settings on my car recently so we did a test session last week and I now have a better understanding of the car. Both Jemma and I are looking forward to Ulster, as this is our first trip across. I won't really be comparing times as we just intend to run our own rally and build our confidence up.

The 2007 Philip White Tyres Ulster Rally is based in the town of Armagh and the 360 mile long rally begins with an intensive 12 hour recce before the event. This allows the crews the opportunity to make detailed notes ahead of the 2 day long rally which begins on Friday 31 August at 2:45pm. The ceremonial finish will be back at The Mall in Armagh on Saturday afternoon.
