2005 Gold Cup Unlimited Hydroplane Champion Terry Troxell Passes

The boat racing world was rocked on Saturday by the news that 2005 Gold Cup champion Terry Troxell, one of the sport's most popular and successful drivers, had succumbed to a heart attack.

Troxell was one of the top limited inboard hydroplane drivers in the country for many seasons, scoring mutltiple wins and records in the National Modified Class before joining the Leland Unlimited hydroplane team and driving Miss Znetix to victory in the 2001 Columbia Cup in Tri-Cities, Wash. In 2005, Troxell piloted the U-13 boat owned by Dave Bartush and sponsored by Al Deeby Dodge of Detroit to a hometown win to take the prestigious Chrysler Jeep APBA Gold Cup on the Detroit River.

Troxell was the step-father of U-5 driver Jeff Bernard, and father-in-law of U-17 driver Kip Brown,
