KEY WEST, Fla. (November 1, 2007) Dave Scott and the Budweiser Select Offshore Team are headed to Key West next week to compete in the 27th Annual Super Boat International (SBI) World Championship.
At the Offshore Super Series (OSS) National Championship, Scott and throttleman Johnny Tomlinson earned enough points to finish first in the national points standings. After bringing home its tenth national title, the team's sights are now set on a strategy for winning the SBI World Championship.
"We have a new set of engines for this race," Scott said. "They will go into the 50' Mystic for the first race on Wednesday. That will give us four fresh engines in the Bud Select Mystic, which is a much faster boat than our MTI we ran at nationals. I feel very good and excited about Key West, and I think it will be a great race."
The Budweiser Select Offshore Team will hit the waters for testing on Tuesday, before race action begins the next day. Race two will follow on Friday and the final race will be held Sunday. In this `winner-take- all', three-day event, Scott knows he'll have his work cut out for him, competing against several teams he has yet to see perform this year.
Scott is confident in his team and the chance at winning another world championship title. In addition to the strong competition, there is another factor the team will have to watch carefully in the Keys the weather.
"Well, obviously [the weather] can vary and it does that often here," Scott said. "We're fortunate because the length of our boat will allow us to handle whatever comes our way. It could be fast water, but that's great because it's a fast boat. Even if it's big water, we'll still have a fast boat. We feel very good bringing the Bud Select Mystic to the Keys because we want this world championship title."
In 2006, Scott and crew won their ninth National Championship on Lake Mead in Las Vegas. They also brought home the checkered flag in seven regular season races, won their class at the Lake Rescue Shootout with a speed of 178 mph, and later in the year took second at the OSS World Championship in Destin, Fla. Scott and the Budweiser Select Team's most recent win came during the 2007 Lake Rescue Shootout, where they brought home three class wins. After bringing home their 10th national title on Lake of the Ozarks a few weeks ago, Scott and the Budweiser Select Offshore Team are ready to tackle the Keys for their eighth world title.
Festivities begin Sunday with a pre-race driver's party at Mel Fisher Museum, followed by two days of testing before official race action begins Wednesday. After three days of racing and several parties mixed in, the awards ceremony will be held Sunday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m.
