Thoeret Stable After Unlimited Hydroplane Accident During Madison

MADISON, Ind. -- Jean Theoret, 47. of Maple Grove, Quebec, driver of the U-37 Miss Bello's Pizza, is in stable but guarded condition according to Dr. Edward Sauris of King's Daughters' Hospital after a blowover accident during an elimination heat Saturday afternoon at the 59th annual Madison Regatta unlimited hydroplane race. Theoret was the first place boat in elimination heat 1B when the accident occurred.

He was immediately rushed to King's Daughters' Hospital where he was stabilized and then transported by ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital for further evaluation.

J Michael Kelly in the U-7 Graham Trucking was awarded the victory in the elimination heat. Kelly and Theoret were dueling for the lead when the boat went airborne between turns one and two on the Ohio River course.

Defending Madison Regatta champion Jeff Bernard in the U-5 Formulaboats.com and Dave Villwock in the U-16 Miss Elam Plus won the other two elimination heats in Saturday's other action.

Competition continues Sunday with more elimination heats and the championship final at 4:20 p.m. EDT.

The fleet heads to Detroit next weekend for the 100th running the Gold Cup.
