May 31, 2001 (Austin, TX) --- The IHBA today announced the appointment of the first ever Top Fuel Hydro Class Representative. Gary "Wolf" McClendon, of Ward, AR, part-owner of the Kentucky Thunder Top Fuel Hydro entry, will assume his responsibilities immediately. McClendon will act as representative and spokesperson for the premier class of competition on the IHBA national series dealing directly with all Top Fuel Hydro race teams and owners on issues of concern inside the growing sanctioning body.

" I am excited about this opportunity to expand the communication between the Top Fuel Hydro race teams and the IHBA. Communication is key in any sport and I know we can continue to expand the popularity of drag boat racing by having a free flow of ideas between the IHBA and the premier class," said McClendon.

McClendon was elected by his fellow Top Fuel Hydro competitors and team owners earlier this month.

The International Hot Boat Association (IHBA) is the premier sanctioning association for drag boat racing in the United States. The IHBA is dedicated to producing top-level motor sports events across the country by sanctioning 16 events at the national and divisional levels. The 2001 IHBA national series is a twelve-event tour covering California, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Carolina, and Georgia, with a $1.5 million purse, reaching over 300,000 fans, and culminating with the crowning of the IHBA World Championship at Firebird International Raceway in November. Beginning July 1st Speedvision will begin a 52-week television schedule covering the IHBA. Log onto the IHBA website for more information www.ihbaracing.com
