WASHINGTON, N.C. (October 15, 2000) - Nigel Hook, Jay Johnson, and Tony Wiese outlasted the competition in a race filled with mechanical failures. They beat out the favored Fountain boats, as the only Wellcraft Scarab in the Super Vee Class, to bring home the second win of the season for CITGO-SUPERGARD Motor Oil.

The CITGO-SUPERGARD Scarab jumped into the lead shortly after the green flag flew. However, it didn't take long for the Matco Voyager and the FountainUSA.com Fountains to make a play for the top position.

Hook, Johnson, and Wiese reportedly had oil pressure problems, and fell back in the field on the liquid race track on the Pamlico River. Shortly thereafter, to the CITGO team's advantage, the Matco Voyager team lost an engine and were only running on half the horsepower. The CITGO-SUPERGARD team then passed the Matco team and put some serious distance between their 43’ Wellcraft Scarab and the competition.

In the end, it was the CITGO-SUPERGARD Offshore Racing team displaying the checkered flag as the victors.

It was a great finish for a team well deserving of a win, and a great way to start out an era with veteran driver Jay Johnson back in the drivers seat.

Hook and the team will now prepare themselves for the World Championships taking place next month in St. Petersburg, Florida. The CITGO-SUPERGARD Scarab will also get two brand new engines to go to war with the Fountains in St. Pete.
