Factory Suzuki To Send Carmichael and Pastrana in Toronto and Vancouver
AURORA, III. (October 12, 2004) - Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division announced today that Suzuki's Travis Pastrana has committed to racing the 2004-2005 THQ World Supercross GP, which opens at Toronto's SkyDome Saturday, December 4.
Pastrana, 20, captured his first major championship in 2000 when he won the 125cc outdoor motocross championship, claiming five overall wins as a rookie. In 2001 he won the 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross Series championship.
On October 5, Pastrana withdrew from the Maxxis U.S. Open to continue his rigorous training program in pursuit of his first THQ World Supercross GP championship.
Pastrana joins three-time 250cc AMA Supercross Series champion and new Factory Suzuki teammate Ricky Carmichael on the THQ World Supercross GP starting grid in Toronto and Vancouver.
The two international races coupled with 15 of the domestic races (excluding the Daytona Supercross) comprise the 17-round THQ World Supercross GP. Last season Heath Voss, of Mico, Texas piloted his Mach 1 Yamaha to the THQ World Supercross GP championship, earning top honors and giving Yamaha its second world championship in as many seasons.
