LA CANADA, Calif. (September 13, 2001) - Team Suzuki's Travis Pastrana, Annapolis, Md., will make his first appearance in major motocross racing since withdrawing from the Outdoor Nationals due to injuries at the 2001 THQ U.S. Open, the World's Richest Motorcycle Race.
Pastrana, 17, is the reigning 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross champion and has plenty of experience at indoor competition. The decision to return to compete at this event was a tough one and the right one for Pastrana. In last year's THQ U.S. Open, the gate dropped without Pastrana, who was sidelined due to a broken leg. The year before, Pastrana accepted his invitation to this event, which launched his professional racing career. "This prestigious event is known throughout the world as both the close and opening of seasons," said Pastrana. "It is the richest purse in motocross, making it the most anticipated race of the year for every rider qualified or invited to compete. The best East Coast and West Coast 125cc riders, as well as top riders from the 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc world championship series, all add to the already competitive 250cc elite from America." Tickets for this year's THQ U.S. Open can be purchased online at www.ussx.com, through the MGM Grand box office or by calling Ticketmaster at 702-474-4000. Chaparral Motorsports also has tickets available by calling 800-841-2960.
