AURORA, Ill. (October 3, 2001) - Formula USA announced for the first time today the confirmation of nine different competing motorcycle brands will be welcomed at this weekend's K&N Filters Del Mar Weekend.
"Two years ago, brand integration was one of the goals of Formula USA's Dirt Track program, and this year's Del Mar is the hallmark of that achievement," said Bob Moran, director of dirt track, Clear Channel Entertainment. "This is the future of dirt track, and we are seeing it unfold at Del Mar."
Formula USA credits the cycle specification and rules, which limits Pro Singles competition to single cylinder 400cc and high equipment, and the Super Single & Twin machines to 600cc - 1000cc. Through the use of varying engine displacements and air intake restrictors, the rules provide for a level playing field. This has generated mulit-brand participation, including long time player Harley-Davidson and newcomers Suzuki, Yamaha and now Honda.
"At one time a variety of dominating brands competed in dirt track racing like Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Triumph, BSA and Norton," said Mike Kidd, vice president, Clear Channel." "Since the early '90s there has been limited brand involvement. Our dirt track program was designed to stimulate brand involvement and rider support, along with exciting and entertaining racing for the fans. Del Mar is set to show we are on the right track with more than nine different brands pre-entered for the Saturday night Short Track and the K&N Del Mar Mile on Sunday."
Tickets to the K&N Filters Del Mar Weekend are available in three options:
Saturday's Concourse D' Elegance package, which includes admission to see the Vintage Mile racing is priced at $13 in advance while kids 12 and under are free.
