Sports cars, superbikes and Lucas Oil off-road racers on the agenda.
Word came earlier this week that Miller Motorsports Park in Utah will lose the backing of the company that built it, the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, at the end of this season. So as the track, built on county-owned property, looks for a new promoter to keep it going in 2016 and beyond, the facility's season-opening weeked is offering free admission this Saturday for not one, but three separate events, which just illustrates how versatile to 500-plus acre complex is.
“We are very anxious to get the 2015 racing season started,” said general manager Brian Smith, “and we are looking forward to this weekend’s season opener, which will be free to everyone. We hope that everyone will come out, rain or shine, and enjoy some great competition among some very talented racers at a beautiful racing facility.”
The on-track action will include the sports cars of the Utah Region of the National Auto Sport Association on the East Road Course, the superbikes of the Utah Sport Bike Association’s VORTEX Masters of the Mountains Series on the West Road Course and the off-road trucks and buggies of the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Racing Series on the Off Road Short Course.
Off the track, there will be live music and free hot dogs and drinks (while supplies last) from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., plus raffles and giveaways (including hot laps in the new 2015 Mustang GTs of the Ford Performance Racing School) as well as a bounce house for the kids, discounted karting at the Miller Kart Track, free rides in SCCA autocross cars, a large variety of vendors and car corrals.
Activities are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with racing taking place, rain or shine, until 5 p.m.
