Bamburg and Adams each take a win at the Hampton Coliseum.
HAMPTON, Va. (March 23, 2003) - IFMA Freestyle Motocross Presented by XM Satellite Radio Brought to you locally by Toyota returned to the Hampton Coliseum for another full weekend of freestyle motocross.
For the second week in a row, Myles Richmond started Friday night with a run that scored a 92.2, earning the number one qualifying spot followed by Andy Jones and Nate Adams. Beau Bamburg was the nights fifth place qualifier with a score of 90.7. Chris Denison followed Bamburg, qualifying sixth. Denison's run in the final closed with the sterilizer that brought the crowd to its feet, scoring a 90.6, enough to overtake the hot seat. Bamburg followed and one-upped Denison, not only pulling off the sterilizer but also pulling it off with in short landing. Bamburg scored a 92.5 and would remain in the hot seat; watching Robert Distler, Nate Adams and Andy Jones try to beat his score. All failed. Last to ride was the night's number one qualifier, Myles Richmond. Richmond's inconsistent landings, casing on a number of the landings plagued him in his final run. Bamburg's score stood, giving him his third win in this 2003 IFMA season. Andy Jones finished in second followed by Chris Denison in third. Richmond and Adam Jones placed fourth and fifth respectively.
After winning Friday night, Bamburg was still hot coming into Saturday. With a score of 92.8, Bamburg secured the number one qualifying spot. Adam Jones stepped up after a disappointing Friday night to qualify second. Nate Adams, Richmond and Robert Distler rounded out the top five and transferred directly into the finals. Andy Jones, after qualifying sixth, was in the hot seat with a score of 91.9 until Nate Adams was able to put a run together to score a 92.5. Adam Jones was the next to ride, but could only muster a run to score a 92.3. Bamburg got a chance to show off his big whip when he missed on his first jump of final run. Knowing that he had no shot at Adams, Bamburg put a run together just to thrill the crowd, throwing whip after whip keeping the crowd in frenzy.
"If there is anyone I would like to beat me tonight, it is Myles Richmond." "He has been riding so good, he deserves a win," said Beau Bamburg Friday night before Myles Richmond's final run.
