Dayne Kinnaird sweeps IFMA weekend in Fresno.
FRESNO, Calif. (October 5, 2002)-- As the IFMA returned to the double stop weekend with two events, one in Fresno and another in Fargo, ND., freestyle motocross talent spread thin. Many new faces were in Fresno including IFMA first timer, Dayne Kinnaird along with new riders Matt Buyten, Darin Connet and Myles Richmond. IFMA tour regulars included Jesse Olson and Jake Windham had the weight of trying to hold their ground against the new talent.
Friday night Dayne Kinnaird put together technical combos, including a"McMetz-to-Heel-Clicker," a double"McMetz" and a huge"Kiss of Death." Kinnaird was immediately the crowd favorite. After qualifying in the number one position in his first IFMA event, Kinnaird put Jake Windham and Jesse Olson back on their heels. Windham made the final but lost control and could not complete the landing going down hard after attempting a no handed lander. After Darin Connet took the"Hot Seat" from Matt Buyten, only Kinnaird was left. Kinnaird put together a two-minute run that kept the crowd on their feet and gasping for more. After the score came in, Kinnaird's 92.7 was enough to over take the"Hot Seat" and the win in his first ever IFMA competition.
Saturday night started with a fast and furious first and second round that kept the Fresno faithful on their feet. After the dust settled, Darin Connet held the #1 qualifying spot with Friday night's winner, Kinnaird in sixth and Jake Windham in fifth. Scoring a 92.7, Kinnaird held the Hot Seat until Connet's run. Not even half way through the run, Connet crashed and handed the win and the weekends sweep to Kinnaird. Windham finished in second with a 91.5 followed by newcomer and rising star, Matt Buyten in third with a 91.3.
"That was really fun, the fans here in Fresno were great. I am glad that I had the opportunity to compete this weekend," said Dayne Kinnaird after completing the sweep in Fresno.
