No one can stop Kenny Bartram in Birmingham; the Cowboy reigns at the BJCC Arena.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 15, 2003) -- IFMA Freestyle Motocross Presented by XM Satellite Radio returned to the BJCC Arena for the second consecutive year. Kenny Bartram came into the weekend third in IFMA points, looking go gain ground on both Dustin Miller and Adam Jones. The course in Birmingham was very tight and technical and with wet dirt made for a difficult fmx course. Friday nights competition showed the bike skill of Kenny Bartram, Beau Bamburg and Drake McElroy. With the tough conditions these riders stood above the rest.
Friday night Myles Richmond started the night with a run that scored a 92.6 earning the second qualifying spot behind Bartram's 93.2. Beau Bamburg qualified third with a 92.2 followed by McElroy and Andy Jones. Robert Distler, after qualifying in the seventh spot, held the hot seat the longest during the finals. Distler watched Adam Jones, Andy Jones and Drake McElroy try and overtake the hot seat, but could not beat his score of 90.7. Distler finally lost the hot seat when Bamburg scored a 92.5, finishing his run with the "sterilizer." Richmond put another stellar run together but fell short by only two-tenths of a point. Bartram, the nights final competitor, brought the crowd to their feet putting together yet another near perfect run. Bartram's score of 92.7 beat Bamburg and earned another IFMA Trophy.
The number one qualifying spot once again went to Kenny Bartram, scoring a 93.2 in the first round. Drake McElroy put together a run to secure the second spot with a 93.0 followed by Beau Bamburg and Myles Richmond, third and fourth respectively. Jesse Olson was the sixth qualifier, needing the second round to get into the finals. Olson sat in the hot seat until the number one qualifier took the course. Olson's score of 92.6 was enough to hold off Adam Jones, Richmond, Bamburg and McElroy, but was not enough to hold off Bartram. Bartram could not be stopped in Birmingham his score of 92.6 was enough to take the win, the sweep in Birmingham and the overall IFMA points lead.
