FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Aug. 8, 2000) - An interesting twist has been added to the Aug. 11-12 IFMA Freestyle Motocross event at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. The "Devil's Dungeon" -- a seven-foot deep x-shaped pit -- has been dug into the front straightaway of the course.
"This is the first time they've created something like this for IFMA competition," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "Each rider will enter and exit the pit and then come around and enter and exit from another angle. There should be some spectacular jumps coming out of the dungeon."
Competitors will also be able to stay cool in the pit area in an above-ground pool which is being set up for them.
"I'm sure they'll welcome the opportunity to take a break and take a dip," said Gossage. "What they do may look like playtime, but it's a real workout."
Fifteen of the top FMX riders will face off in the Texas round, the only outdoor FMX competition of the 11-event season. This weekend's line-up includes: Jake Windham, John and Robert Distler, Andy Bell, Kenny Bartram, Nate Adams, Clifford Adoptante, Trevor Vines, Dave Turner, Jeff Doetzer, Jimmy McGuire, Jeremy Carter, Billy Walls, Caleb Wyatt and Drake McElroy.
Spectator gates will open at 6:30 pm each evening with the first rider tackling the multi-jump course at 8:00 pm.
Reserved seats and general admission tickets are available at the Texas Motor Speedway box office, by calling the speedway at (817) 215-8500, through Ticketmaster or online at www.pacefmx.com. Taco Cabana restaurants are offering a $2.00 discount coupon good for Friday's program.
