Motorcycle racing is set to be banned at Barbagallo Raceway, in the wake of a death at the West Australian circuit last weekend, according to reports.
Chris Adley was killed during last weekend’s Kings of Wanneroo meeting, the 22-year-old falling before being hit by another competitor.
His was the sixth death in 16 years at Barbagallo, and the second in 2016 after Daniel Chadbund was killed back in May during the State Road Racing Championships.
Reports are now surfacing that the Department of Sport and Recreation has recommended to circuit proprietors the West Australian Sporting Car Club that motorcycle racing be banned at the track, with the WASCC planning to take the recommendation on board and cease all bike racing in the future.
That would mean the circuit will be used exclusively for four-wheeled racing in the future.
The circuit has a near impeccable safety record for car racing, with no driver having been killed as a direct result of a crash there since it became WA’s primary motor racing facility in 1969.
