Rider suspended for testing positive to judgment-impairing drugs

August 27, 2004 - Queensland rider Brett Oberthur has been suspended from competition until July 10, 2006 after returning a positive test for methamphetamine and amphetamine at a long track meeting on May 2 this year.

At a judicial committee hearing on August 24, Oberthur, 30, accepted his test result from the Queensland Long Track Championship, with his case falling under the auspices of Motorcycling Australia's anti-doping policy as found in chapter 28 of the "2004 Manual of Motorcycle Sport". It was a first-time offence for Oberthur.

After deliberation, Oberthur was suspended from competing in any event conducted by or under the auspices of Motorcycling Australia until the aforementioned date.
