LA CANADA, Calif. (August 28, 2001) - This year's THQ U.S. Open, The World's Richest Motorcycle Race, welcomes a new addition with the Amateur Arenacross World Finals at the famous MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The Amateur Arenacross World Finals gives amateurs the opportunity of a lifetime, as they have earned the right to compete on the same track as the professionals. Their road to the finals began in November of 2000 and continued through March of 2001 with qualifying held at the six regions that ran in conjunction with the national and regional arenacross programs. The top three qualifiers in the 16 classes are coming to Las Vegas to be crowned "world champion." The program will feature riders from 37 states and eight Canadian Provinces
The strength of this event in its first season will make it a mainstay at the THQ U.S. Open. Moreover, the immense economic impact from bringing friends and families of the riders from these 37 states and eight Canadian Provinces on the Las Vegas community is reaping some astounding support.
"The excitement has been building all year," said Mike Kidd, vice president of arenacross. " "All 288 riders have worked hard to earn this opportunity."
