Al Lamb and Motorsport.com partner for land speed record

If there’s one thing Al Lamb won’t accept, it’s coming in second. In fact, Lamb reserves that view for the second sled dog “whose view is always the same,” as he puts it. But to see it from his windscreen, there’s only ever one view – wide open salt, and an even greater desire to coax even more from his machine.

And on September 12, 2013, “Lambo,” as he is oft referred, and his APL Powersports Team will once again warp the time-space continuum when they unleash its two-wheeled rocket on the salty floor of what remains of the prehistoric Lake Bonneville in Utah during the 2013 Mike Cook’s Bonneville Shootout.

“I like the big speed,” says Lamb, whose been racing for the better part of 40 years. “To ride a land speed motorcycle takes kind of a different attitude. You have to love speed – the engine screaming; feeling the tires hook then break loose; you have to love being there. Riding the ragged edge, as I call it.”

Currently holding the record with an exit speed of 265.7 mph (and an average entry speed of 264 mph; both set during last year’s event), Lambo and his team are excited about this year’s prospects, which not only see Motorsport.com coming onboard as a partner who will immortalize this year’s Shootout, but find the team once again poised to capitalize on advancements made to Lamb’s Honda CBR1000RR, potentially allowing the team to ‘borrow’ its own record.

“We don’t just want to be the fastest bike in the event, we want to beat everybody,” says Lamb, “But that doesn’t happen with one person, or even just the team. There’s a whole group of people behind the scenes that help make this happen.

“And to have Motorsport.com behind you, the industry’s pinnacle narrator documenting our team’s story and efforts, is something we couldn’t appreciate more,” he said.

Having gotten its start in 1994, Motorsport.com has risen to become racing’s premier voice. With a digital distribution platform that has become the ideal vehicle for the world's top brands to engage race fans, providing in-depth, up-to-the-minute coverage on the full spectrum of motor racing and rallies, joining forces will be an exciting alliance.

"Being able to partner with a group that is truly stretching the limits of what is possible on a motorcycle is great,” says Covy Moore, Motorsport.com content manager. “We look forward to sharing the stories from this year’s land speed records, and hope for successful and safe runs."
