Vergne continues to extend lead
With a victory in race one and second place in race three at Rockingham Volkswagen driver Jean-Eric Vergne from Team Carlin Motorsport defended his lead in the standings of the British Formula 3 Championship. Podium finishes were achieved as well by his team colleagues Adrian Buzaid and James Calado: Buzaid finished race two in third place while Calado occupied third in race three.
ATS Formula 3 Cup
Victory and lead of the standings for Volkswagen Junior Daniel Abt
Volkswagen Junior Daniel Abt was the man of the hour at the race weekend of the ATS Formula 3 Cup. After two pole positions and second place in round one the driver from the Van Amersfoort Racing team in his Dallara-Volkswagen clinched his first win in Germany's top Formula series. The driver from Kempten (Germany) thus took the lead of the standings as well. Felix Rosenqvist was another driver with a good reason to cheer at the Dutch circuit. The Swede, too, celebrated his maiden victory, in round one, and finished race two as the runner-up. Local hero Stef Dusseldorp took third place twice at Assen. Both races overall were dominated by drivers "powered by Volkswagen": on Saturday they took positions one to five, in round two they even managed a 1-2-3-4-5-6 win.
ADAC Formula Masters
Schranner twice, Stanaway once
Three drivers powered by Volkswagen secured podium places at Assen in the three races of the only foreign round of the ADAC Formula Masters. The best driver on the Dutch circuit was Patrick Schranner, who won races one and three and finished round two as the runner-up. Leader of the standings Richie Stanaway was the runner-up twice and won the second race. Mario Farnbacher complemented the podium finishes in all rounds.
Polo Cup India
Prasad and Shankar win at Coimbatore
Vishnu Prasad and Karthik Shankar were the most successful drivers at the second race weekend of the Polo Cup India at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. In the first race Prasad clinched a commanding start-finish victory after starting from the pole position. Sahil Shelar took second place in front of Shankar. Shankar secured first place in front of Prasad and Parth Ghorpade in race two.
Volkswagen Racing Cup
Successful weekend for Chaplin and Fuller
Steve Chaplin and Howard Fuller were the drivers to clinch victories at the third weekend of the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Rockingham. In the first round New Beetle driver Chaplin relegated the two Golf GTI cars driven by Aaron Mason and Peter Felix to positions two and three. The second race belonged to Fuller, who won in front of Felix and James Walker.
