The T-Sport team finished its successful 2006 season on a high note today with win number 14 for National Class Champion, Rodolfo Gonzalez, and two strong top ten finishes for Stuart Hall.
Race one started under the safety car due to the torrential rainfall at the Hampshire track. The F3 cars looked like they were running through a river rather than on a racing circuit so it is testament to the two T-Sport drivers that they stayed calm and got on with racing. Stuart started from 10th on the grid and during the race made a good move on Jonathan Kennard before settling into a long battle with Alberto Valerio. Both Stuart and Valerio were baulked on the penultimate lap by Keiko Ihara which allowed Christian Bakkerud to sail through on the outside and take a place from them. Stuart finished the race in seventh place, but scored points for sixth as the top finisher, Danny Watts, was in the invitation class.
Rodolfo meanwhile had a quiet race, taking fastest lap on the way to his 14th win of the year. Another dominant win for this year's Champion.
Race two looked like it would be run in much drier conditions but a heavy shower just before the start necessitated a change to wet tyres. Stuart started from ninth place and was on course to finish eighth but was mugged in the closing stages by Kennard and Valerio whose slick tyre gamble had just paid off. Still, two top-ten finishes is a good result and a great platform from which to build for 2007 for the young Brit.
Rodolfo was gunning for win 15 at this point but it wasn't to be for the Venezuelan. With just two laps to go his fuel pump seized whilst he was leading and his race was over.
Russell Eacott (T-Sport Team Principal): "That was a bit of a wet and windy weekend; these Thruxton races need to be in the summer really! We've had a good one though with some positive results. It was good to get another win for Rodolfo to cement his Championship win. It was a shame about his fuel pump in race two but that is one of those things. Stuart got two solid finishes and you can see his confidence growing race-by-race. He has a competitive race pace now so we just need to work on getting him up there in qualifying."
