CONWAY REIGNS AT SNETTERTON TO EXTEND F3 LEAD
Snetterton, UK-16/07/06: Mike Conway outclassed the competition with two mighty victories in rounds nine and 10 of the British F3 International Series at Norfolk's Snetterton circuit.
The Sevenoaks driver won from the front row-pole and second position in the first and second races respectively- and now heads the championship by 40 points.
"It's great to be in this position now. We've turned the lead around pretty fast, so I'm happy," the Raikkonen Robertson driver said. "We're going in the right direction, we just need to keep pushing it."
After a smooth, masterful win in race one, in which he set a new lap record, Conway kept his form to repeat the result in race two.
A strong exit out of the second corner set him up to overtake pole-sitter Oliver Jarvis in the opening lap. Conway then calmly held his position despite constant harrying from Jarvis throughout the 28-lap race.
"In the first lap I got a good run down the back straight and managed to hold it around the outside of the Esses," he said. "Jarvis stuck with me the whole way, it made for a good race-I really enjoyed it and it's great to get another win. It's the first time Boyo [team principal Anthony Hieatt] has engineered a win at Snetterton, so thanks to the team and also to my supporters, particular Toshiba and THB Clowes who were here today, which was fantastic."
Conway next races at the Spa Grand Prix circuit in Belgium on 28/29 July, where rounds 11 and 12 of the series mark the mid-point of the British F3 season.
