Ward Burton placed sixth in the NASCAR Winston Cup Pontiac 400 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va. Saturday night, and that result was good enough for the Skip Barber trained driver to slot into second place in the Winston Cup standings behind fellow Skip Barber graduate Bobby Labonte.

Burton was followed by his brother Jeff, also a Skip Barber alumnus, in seventh place.

NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series ran an event over the weekend as well. When the series visited Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill. Skip Barber grads dominated the race capturing all three podium spots. Jack Sprague took the victory ahead of Jimmy Hensley and Randy Tolsma. Steve Grissom in sixth and Mike Wallace in seventh meant that half of the Top-10 was Skip Barber trained. In spite of a tire vibration that became severe toward the end of the race, Sprague won the event handily.

Former Skip Barber Race Series stand out Antonio Pizzonia continues to lead the prestigious British F3 Championship. He managed to score a second place finish at Donnington Park, insuring his lead in the standings. Pizzonia underscored his commitment to the British F3 series in spite of the rumors swirling about him over his eminent Formula One debut with Benetton. He did confirm that he was hoping to test in the Benetton F1 car some time soon, but denied that he would be joining the team before the year is out.
