Carlin Motorsport's Takuma Sato won both of today's British Formula 3 races, shattering the International Circuit lap record set by Paul Gibson in last months National Supersport event by nearly ten seconds.
In the opening race, Sato finished just ahead of Northamptonshire based drivers Andy Priaulx and Derek Hayes. Hayes failed to convert his third pole position of the season after getting a bad start, but recovered well to finish on the podium. Takuma Sato set the fastest lap of the race, lapping the 2.56 mile track at an average of 97.88 mph.
In the second race of the day Sato won from the front, leading home teammate Anthony Davidson for a memorable 1-2 for Carlin Motorsport. Sato once again set the fastest lap of the race, shaving nearly a second on his own lap record with a time of 1 minute 33.203 seconds and an average speed of 98.88mph.
Takuma Sato enjoyed his first trip to Britain's newest motor racing track describing the part of the banked track the cars use on turn four as "very interesting!"
A crowd of over 10,000 enjoyed a weekend of action packed motor racing, with over 8,000 making the trip to Rockingham on a very damp Sunday afternoon. The skies over Northamptonshire may have been cloudy, but the racing was anything but dull.
