Skip Barber Race Series veteran Antonio Pizzonia continues to impress in his rookie season in the highly competitive British Formula 3 Championship.
His two-week win streak came to an end at Thruxton this past weekend, but a second-place finish ensures that he remains atop the points standings. Pizzonia finished second to Tomas Scheckter, son of 1979 World Driving Champion Jody Scheckter, and cousin to Jaki Scheckter, a former Barber Pro Series racer. Pizzonia made a valiant effort to go around the outside of Scheckter in turn 1, but couldn’t quite make it stick.
There have been rumors of late citing an interest in Pizzonia’s skills by the Benetton Formula One Team. Pizzonia of course dominated the Formula Renault Championship in the U.K. last year, which ties in nicely to Renault’s recent purchase of the Benetton F1 team.
