Red Bull and Paul Edwards enter the World Series with KTR.
The 24-year-old American driver Paul Edwards, top elect from the Red Bull F1 Drivers Search Program, will join Belgian team KTR and the Telefónica World Series by Nissan.
Edwards will already race in Curitiba and Sao Paulo this year, in preparation for a full campaign with Red Bull and KTR in 2003.
Barcelona, 20th November 2002 The US driver Paul Edwards will join Belgian team KTR for the two last meetings of the Telefónica World Series by Nissan that will take place on December 1st at Curitiba (Brazil) and December 8th at Interlagos (Brazil).
Paul Edwards is the n°1 selected driver from the Red Bull F1 Driver Search Program that included three other drivers that will race in Europe next year. The program's goal is simple: find aspiring, up-and-coming American driving talent and help them break into the Formula 1 competition.
KTR boss Kurt Mollekens was delighted with the decision: "It was amazing how fast everything went. Red Bull contacted me for the first time last Friday! In this time we reached an agreement for both the Brazilian rounds and the 2003-season. I know Paul from when he raced in British F.Ford and F3 and I rate him very highly. I spoke to him a few times over the last few days and he is just as excited as I am with regard to his TWS-program. I think this is a very important deal, not only for Red Bull, Paul and KTR, but also for the Telefónica World Series by Nissan."
Dr. Helmut Marko, sporting consultant for the mentioned Red Bull F1 Driver Search Program: "The Telefónica World Series by Nissan, with its new 450 bhp single-seater, will be very close to F1. This International Series is getting more and more reputed and Paul Edwards is our most experienced driver. Also, the World Series is the only category that still has races left this season, which will allow Paul to gain experience and gear up for the 2003 season."
