CORNELIUS MAKES FORMULA 3 TEST DEBUT WITH CARLIN

British racer Max Cornelius took part in a Formula 3 test with Carlin this week as he continues his climb up the motorsport ladder. The 16-year-old follows in the footsteps of F1 aces Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen as he completes a test programme with the championship winning British F3 team.

Cornelius, who lives in Southwick on the Somerset/Wiltshire border, has been one of the front runners in the Autosport Young Guns championship this year, taking five pole positions and nine podiums, including seven race wins. The British racer lost out on the 2010 Autosport Young Guns title by just four points at the season finale in August, due to a final corner accident in the last race of the season which saw his title hopes dashed. However, the young Brit can take solace in having taken more race victories than any other driver this season.

Carlin are six time winners of the British F3 Series and have taken the title for the last three years with F1 ace Jaime Alguersuari, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne respectively. In 2010, the team took 21 victories and a total of 48 podiums to strengthen its position as the most successful team in British F3 history. Carlin have also played a part in testing some of today's top racing stars - both Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen were tested by Carlin in preparation for their F1 careers.

Cornelius completed a one day test at the Pembrey circuit in South Wales earlier this week, which was also the location for Button and Raikkonen's tests. Frome born Cornelius, who hails from the same Somerset town as F1 champion Button, impressed the Carlin team with his attitude and talent at the Pembrey test.

Speaking about Cornelius, Carlin's Steve Hollman said: "Max is still very young so it's a good idea to get him some experience in an F3 car which is a great platform for young driver development. Despite this being his first experience of the F3 car, Max did a great job and adapted very well to the increased power and grip; the team have been very impressed with him. I think this will give him a really good indication of how he needs to develop as a driver as his career continues."
