FORMULA RENAULT UK STARS TO ENJOY DOUBLE PRIZE TEST
Organisers of the 2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship confirmed that the three highest placed drivers at the end of this season will each receive a test in a British Formula 3 car, with the overall Champion and Vice Champion also enjoying an additional test in a Formula Renault 3.5.
Previous years have seen just the Formula Renault UK champion receive a test in the 3.5-litre World Series by Renault car but thanks to negotiations between Renault Sport Technologies and British F3 promoter SRO this has been significantly expanded.
The two Formula Renault 3.5 tests are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 20th October at the 3.321-mile Motorland Aragon circuit while arrangements for the British Formula 3 tests are still to be confirmed.
With four drivers currently vying for the coveted title this year, there's even more to play for when the deciding two rounds take place at Kent's Brands Hatch Indy circuit on 9th/10th October. Fortec Motorsport's Tom (Saffron Walden) currently heads the drivers' standings although only by a mere point from Manor Competition's Lewis Williamson (Golspie). Hungarian Tama's Pa'l Kiss, driving for Atech GP, currently lies in third spot with a second Manor Competition driver, Will Stevens (Oxshott), as the remaining title hopeful.
The news comes on the back of a similar initiative which will see 2010 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship front-runner Mitchell Hale (Bristol) enjoy a test in the new Formula Renault 2.0 race car at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on October 11th. Here he will also be joined by 2010 ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin Champion Dave Newsham (Inverness) who takes to the wheel of a Eurocup Megane Trophy as part of his prize for winning the title.
Championship Promoter Simon North said: "British Formula 3 is often seen as the next step for Formula Renault UK drivers with second, third and fourth places in this year's F3 season all being former Renault stars. Formula Renault 3.5 meanwhile, is very much the stepping stone for drivers graduating from British F3 and therefore giving our drivers a real opportunity to experience both prestigious championships.
"The announcement once again demonstrates Renault Sport UK's continued commitment to developing the talents of new drivers and helping them progress through the motorsport ranks and onto their dream of one day competing in Formula One."
The final rounds, 19 and 20, of the 2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship take place at Kent's Brands Hatch Indy circuit on 9th/10th October.
