DIRANI TO RACE P1 MOTORPSORT LOLA F3 CAR
One of the rising stars of International single seater racing - Danilo Dirani has signed for P1 Motorsport to contest this years British Formula 3 International Series in the all-new Lola B05/30 challenger.
The Brazilian finished 5th in last years series, including two race wins and six podium positions and is delighted to be joining P1, who narrowly missed out on title success in 2004 with current BAR Formula One test driver Adam Carroll.
"This is a great opportunity for me as I believe that P1 and Lola have the same focus and goals that I have for this season which is to win," said the 22 year old. "I know that after visiting Lola and P1 Motorsport that the development and resources that they have are very impressive. I am looking forward to racing once again in the British series and have a very strong motivation to challenge and hopefully win the title in 2005."
P1 Motorsport boss Roly Vincini was also thrilled to welcome the 'Paulista' to his team after being impressed by Dirani during his first year.
"It was obvious to see that he has tremendous talent," said the experienced ex Brabham and Lotus engineer. " We can't wait to start what will be an intensive testing period in order to be completely 'on it' for the season opener. Lola will put their full engineering force behind winning again this year and I am confident that together we can go one better than we did in 2004."
Dirani will make his track debut next Tuesday at Donington Park in the P1 Motorsport Lola- Mugen Honda. The first race of the British Formula Three International Series is on April 3rd also at Donington.
Danilo Dirani is arguably one of Brazil's greatest prospects of following in the footsteps of South American greats such as Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet and Rubens Barrichello. He began karting at the age 6 and went on to become a double Panamerican champion in 1998 and 2000 before stepping up in to car racing the following year.
Winning the SudAm F3 series in 2003, scoring a remarkable 14 race wins from 18, Danilo moved in to British F3 last season with Carlin Motorsport, taking a fine double race win at Croft.
P1 Motorsport have been F3 regulars since 1993 running the likes of new Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner and South American racers Roberto Xavier and Ernesto Viso. Last season was P1's most successful to date with six race wins between Adam Carroll and Viso. The Norfolk based team also took the Scholarship class title in both 2002 (with Carroll) and 2003 (with Viso).
The Lola B05/30 undertook its first laps last week at Silverstone and has been through an intensive design process featuring Lola's on-site 50% scale state of the art windtunnel and the company's renowned CFD capability. Excellent aerodynamic efficiency was a significant trademark of last year's car and now Lola engineers have considerably enhanced these characteristics in an effort to overhaul this years rivals.
