Dirani on pole for race one at Croft
Brazilian Danilo Dirani claimed the first pole position for round five of the Avon Tyres British Formula Three Championship at Croft in North Yorkshire this morning (May 1).
The Carlin Motorsport driver beat Adam Carroll and previous round winner, James Rossiter to head the times. Alvaro Parente will start from fourth position with Australian Will Davison and Venezuelan Ernesto Viso rounding off the top six.
"I'm very happy with that," said Dirani. "The car felt very balanced and very good all around the circuit. Hopefully I can go quicker in the second session later."
Current series leader Nelson Piquet Jr suffered after a set-up change from testing yesterday and could only manage eighth position. The only non-Dallara chassis in the field, the Lola-Dome of Danny Watts could only manage 12th fastest time in the opening session.
In the Scholarship Class Ryan Lewis beat Stephen Jelley to pole position by just two tenths of a second. The championship leader is looking to continue his winning streak after claiming victory in the opening three races of the season.
"I'm actually a little bit disappointed as we're not as quick as yesterday in testing. The traffic was heavy and the red flag came out it was just as my tyres had come in. I was a little bit enthusiastic into some of the corners too but I've looked at the data from the car and should be able to be quicker this afternoon," said Lewis.
